Pence was hurt in the fourth inning while swinging at a pitch. As he popped up to first, he dropped the bat in pain and did not return to the field for the bottom of the inning.

Luke Scott replaced Pence and drove in the game's only run with a sixth-inning single in Houston's 1-0 victory.

Pence, in 73 games of his rookie season, leads the Astros with a .330 batting average. He also has 12 home runs with 45 runs batted in.
