Norman misses cut after a 77

Golf Betting Lines

04/10/2009 - Augusta, GA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The crowd surrounding Augusta National's familiar 18th green applauded Greg Norman. He applauded them right back.

If the tournament hasn't always been kind to The Shark, at least the gallery has.

Norman missed the Masters cut on Friday after stumbling to a five-over 77 in the second round -- 18 holes that never really got going, a flurry of mistakes that ended the 54-year-old's 23rd Masters start.

But what a fairy tale start it was.

Norman thrilled the golf world when he carried the lead into the final round of the British Open last summer. He didn't win, but a third-place tie clinched his first start at Augusta since 2002.

Teeing off early on Thursday morning, Norman had no expectations for this Masters. He played two straight weeks to get ready -- once on the Champions Tour and once on the PGA Tour -- and joked that everyone wants to live in the past.

But Norman's past at Augusta has its ghosts.

In 1986, Norman was in position to win his first Masters title until a then 46-year-old Jack Nicklaus passed him in the final round en route to a historic win.

It was the first of two consecutive runner-up ties for Norman at the Masters -- the second one coming in 1987, when Larry Mize's miraculous chip-in topped Norman in a playoff.

Nearly a decade later, Norman built a seemingly insurmountable six-shot lead and was -- finally, mercifully -- going to be fitted for his first green jacket.

But the final day in 1996 ended like too many before it, with Nick Faldo's 67 playing the role of spoiler this time. Norman lost by five strokes, and not even Faldo could hide his embarrassment for the golden-haired Australian.

It looked like Norman, a two-time British Open champion, might finally get another shot to win his first Masters crown after being shut out in 22 previous starts. He opened with a 70 on Thursday, same as Tiger Woods and five worse than leader Chad Campbell.

But a bogey at No. 3 on Friday ... then a bogey on No. 6 ... then, later, a bogey at 11 and a double-bogey at 13 ... and, alas, the day ended with another dose of disappointment.

Norman collected five bogeys, a double-bogey and just two birdies in his second round. His storybook Masters start ended at three-over-par 147, two shots off the cut line.

And with one -- possibly final -- round of applause.

Will Ohio State continue to run the table in College Football betting odds?
MySportsbook.com favors Buckeyes, Fighting Irish and Golden Bears in this weekend's big games.

NEW YORK, NY, Sept. 21 - My Sportsbook NCAA football fans: things are beginning to get really interesting on college football's national stage. Following last weekend's "Separation Saturday", which included five teams ranked in the top 15 dropping games, the BCS Championship picture is beginning to take shape - with Ohio State leading the charge. And, according to odds makers at MySportsbook.com, the number-one-ranked Buckeyes will continue their winning ways this weekend.

Revenge will be the name of the game in Columbus this Saturday, as Ohio State looks to even the score following last season's loss to Joe Paterno's Nittany Lions. Although Penn State are listed as 16.5 point underdogs, they are 11-10 all-time versus the Buckeyes. Paterno and the Lions, however, will have to shut down Heisman Trophy favorite Troy Smith who has thrown for 769 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

Speaking of revenge, Notre Dame will be out for some against Michigan State, following last year's 44 - 41 overtime loss to the Spartans in South Bend. The thirteenth-ranked Irish, listed as a 3-point favorite, will also be looking to avenge last Saturday's thrashing from the Michigan Wolverines. The Spartans, meanwhile, have won seven of the last nine match-ups against Notre Dame and are coming off an impressive 38-23 victory over Pittsburgh.

Out west, 22nd-ranked Arizona State will be battling for their first victory over 21st-ranked California since 2000. Although the Golden Bears are listed as 7.5-point favorites, the Sun Devils are 3-0, lead the nation in sacks with 18 and possess the Pac-10's leading passer in sophomore quarterback Rudy Carpenter.
